Goiris, Geert
1971 Borbem, lives in Antwerp (Belgium).

venue: Kubo Kursaal

The photographs by Geert Goiris — spouting fountains, mountain vistas, abandoned terrains, and Nordic panoramas — are isolated and alienated landscapes that point to the basic struggle between nature and human attempts to dominate it. The artist refers to a natural beauty on the brink of rotting, eroding, and melting, in order to posit landscape as a ruin — a continuous cyclical transformation between the historical and the evolving. These images, haunted by a strange presence, invite an innate faith in beauty which is increasingly artifactuous.
