von Wulffen, Amelie
1966 Breitenbrunn / Oberpfalz, lives in Berlin (Germany)

venue: museo San Telmo

Amelie von Wulffen creates dream-like scenarios where gaps, elisions and insertions build a new architecture of remembrance. Moving in an intimate space where personal and collective moments of recollection merge, von Wulffen’s drawings and collages incorporate images and fragments that are overlaid and blended to simulate the stratified mechanisms of memory. She collapses disparate motifs such as private anecdotes, family vicissitudes, Renaissance landscapes, and 1970s idols as diverse as John Travolta and Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn. Carrying the burden of a never-ending past, while at the same time preserving the lightness and vagueness of ephemeral mental images, von Wulffen’s work explores the ruins of a history that is both distinctly European and deeply personal at the same time.
