Ziura, Darius
1968 Vilnius, lives in Vilnius (Lithuania)

venue: museo San Telmo

Darius Ziura is a clandestine street portrait painter posing as a conceptual artist in Vilnius. His persona imparts new meaning to Baudelaire’s Sketch of the Modern Painter to further explore how modern day regulations of public space have transfigured the once romantic street painter into a dubious criminal character. Ziura´s hidden pursuit of draftsmanship leads him to conduct his portrait studies within the conventional media of video. Borrowing the name of the artist’s home village in northern Lithuania, Gustonai includes 60 one minute video portraits of each of the town´s inhabitants.
