Mendizabal, Asier
1973 Ordizia, lives in Bilbao (Basque Country, Spain).

venue: casa Ciriza

Through his installations, videos and photographs, Asier Mendizabal addresses desire as a territory of multiple confrontations between individual and collective beliefs. Departing from symbolic references to music, youth culture and political movements, Mendizabal investigates ways in which groups congregate in the name of ideology or simply out of a need to be together. Mendizabal’s sparse installations also speak of the longing for a clear cut distinction between friends and enemies. However, his work is not about taking sides or expressing precise political views, but, rather, reveals those mechanisms that help us recognize ourselves as part of a group or a society.
