Sailstorfer, Michael
1979 Vilsbiburg, lives in Munich (Germany)

venue: Kubo Kursaal

Michael Sailstorfer’s inclination toward architectural alchemy questions the historic dynamic of function. The artist appropriates objects with clear and practical purposes – sheds, lampposts, bus stops, and cars – to rearticulate them into other forms that are ironically distorted and highly dysfunctional. For Breadboard Construction-Marilyn (2004), Sailstorfer transforms discarded industrial ventilators, grids and wood planks from the former fish warehouse Casa Ciriza in Pasaia into a hybrid and open-ended stage that announces these former artefacts as an expressive composite structure.
