At NICELLI AIRPORT on the LIDO
JUNE 14th at 21:00 UNTIL MIDNIGHT AND ON IFM
and Manifesta 5 launch EXTRA SCHENGEN at Nicelli Airport in
Lido as an occasion to bring together different experiences
across visual art and music while exploring new territories
in Venice and Europe. EXTRA SCHENGEN, realized within Europe's
first airport for the airline Transadriatica, reflects
Manifesta 5's desire to explore disgarded and reinvented places,
extreme territories, and autonomous sectors. Adhering
closely to the architecture of the modernist building from
1935, and yet radically transforming it from with-in, the
djs and the artists of EXTRA SCHENGEN forge new possibilities
of expression within rational and functional frames and constructs.
DJs Derbastler and Sokolov together with Radio Eurasia
(artists Kyrill Protsenko and Iliya Chichkan) from Kyiv offer
sound and visual compiled out of Kyiv's Soviet Film and Photo
archive in a seamless presentation that echoes the airport's
interior as a private and illusory frontier. The ethno-punk cabaret
group GOGOL BORDELLO, regarded for past performances in the Bulgarian
Bar on Canal Street, offer what the group's lead singer, Eugene
Hutz, defines as Ukrainian Gypsy Punk Dada.
