Is responsible for the content of the postgraduate program
Alejandro Zaera-Polo (Madrid 1963) studied architecture at
the E.T.S. of Architecture in Madrid and obtained a Master's
degree at Harvard University Graduate School of Design. From
1991-1992 he worked with the Office for Metropolitan Architecture
in Rotterdam and in 1992 he established Foreign Office Architects
(FOA) in Rotterdam with Farshid Moussavi, before establishing
themselves in London.
Alejandro Zaera-Polo contributes regularly to leading architectural
journals such as El Croquis, Quaderns, A.D. and other international
publications. He has been a unit master at the AA in London
and a visiting critic at Princeton University, Columbia University
and the Berlage Institute, as well as an associate professor
of design at the E.T.S. of Architecture.
Foreign Office Architects received the first prize in the international
competition for the Yokohama Port Terminal (1996). This project
was their first commission and has been published in various
journals. Since then they have been involved in a range of different
projects, including Blue Moon project in Groningen; Auditorium
Park in Barcelona; a Central Police Station complex and surrounding
landscape in La Villa Joyosa, Spain; Mahler 4, an office complex
in Amsterdam; Publishing Headquarters in Paju City, Korea; New
Belgo Restaurants in London, Bristol and New York. |
